FAQ
What is the purpose of this project?
This project is the practical part of the final degree for a Bachelor of Arts in photography of me, project founder Franziska. You can read more about me and the project under the menu point “behind the project”. There, you can also find the details about the thesis with a complete description of the project and its philosophy.
What exactly should be on the photos?
Everything that has something to do with your period: used tampons / pantyliners / cups / period panties, bloody toilet paper, bloody sex (not too explicit please),blood in the toilet, blood on the (dance)floor, blood in the tub, blood on your clothes, on your hands … EVERYTHING. Have a look at the gallery for some inspiration!
IMPORTANT: The project is documentary, please do not edit the images. Nothing is "pimped up" - no filters, no colour correction, no cat ears, nothing.
How many pics can I send?
As many as you want! 1 to 50 - if some are too So viele wie du willst! 1 bis 50 – when some are too similar, I’ll chose the best.
Is it anonymous?
99,99% YES. All pictures that will be published or used somewhere (for example for the website upload here, on Instagram or in editorial articles about the project), will be total photo-zombies without any personal information: I’ll simply screenshot them before (wow, total pro-move, right?). No personal data can be read from the original image. That's why I also use a normal gmail address, because then there’s no hidden tracking possible within this website. You can of course use a secret email address without even telling me your name. In general: NO NAMES – no shoutouts, no credits, never, ever.
Are smartphone pictures okay?
Of course. The quality doesn’t really matter, but it would be good if they’re not totally blurry – normal sharpness. If you want to take high-resolution DSLR-cam pics, that’s of course also super nice! It would be good if you’d then still send them as single mails and not via wetransfer or so.
Do the pictures have to be from my current period?
No, they can also be older photos. There can be various reasons why you may not be bleeding for a longer period of time (pregnancy, menopause, contraceptives), but you can still participate! So, if you have a few “historical documents” saved somewhere: keep them coming!
What is too much?
There is no too much! Your menstruatl cup slipped out of your hand and the bathroom suddenly looks like the film set of “Interview with a Vampire”? You put all your used pantyliners of the last 7 weeks on the wall? Or you had sex while bleeding and the sheets look like an abstract painting? All good!
BUT: Please don’t stage stuff! The project is a documentary project – red ink etc. is cheating!!!!
What shouldn’t be in the pictures?
The photos shouldn’t show recognizable faces or other body features that can be assigned to a specific person. If so, I’ll retouch it out.
Do I need to mail any further info?
No. You don't have to say your name or introduce yourself in any other way – just drop the pics, super easy. If you like, you can of course also give me a short personal feedback on the project, which I can then post anonymously on the feedback page here. That might motivate others to take part in the project too :) (For all non-Germans: I’m really curious about the reach of this project, so if you want, you can simply write your country in the mail, that would be so interesting!)
I'm not menstruating for 3 weeks and I'm afraid I'll forget about the project by then.
Attention, now comes shameless Instagram promotion: simply subscribe to the IG account (@howwebleed_project), go to settings on the profile page and set a notification for new posts and/or stories. Then the project will automatically get on your nerves until you can participate!
Unfortunately I only bleed very little …
If there is no TOO MUCH, there is also no TOO LITTLE. Hey, even if it's just a small pink dot on the tampon or a tiny little intermenstrual bleeding - THAT is menstruation too and therefore belongs in the project!
I am not menstruating but would like to support the project.
Oh my, you’re AWESOME! That's totally great of you. Just tell your friends about it, share the link to this page and support us on social media with nice comments and likes! Thanks a lot for this.
I am a toxic male and will send Dick Pics to this email address.
Phew ... well, do what you want (your mom is crying). I have a similar project in the pipeline with Dick Pics ... you’ll be part of that one then. LOL
Isn't this website a total paradise for fetishists?
Probably yes. But which side isn’t? #ebay – Welcome everybody! But please BEHAVE.
Is the project limited in time?
For now, yes – 8 weeks, June 14th to August 10th, 2021. Enough time to take part at least once!
EDIT (8/15/21): The response has been great, you’re all amazing – we'll keep going until we have 1000 photos!
Who owns the rights to the images?
For protection of privacy it is best for everybody to not make any contracts. The moment you email the pictures and thus make your photos available to the project, you transfer all rights to the photos to me, project founder Franziska. This is also good for you, because as a freelance photographer – if the worst comes to the worst – I can defend our rights against third parties and legally represent and protect the images of the project. My university also stands behind me.
Are there any other plans for the project?
As part of the bachelor thesis, a documentary photo book will be created in addition to a scientific work by the end of July 2021. Depending on how the project develops, it might also be possible to publish the book or organize an exhibition. By sending the photos, you agree that the project and the photos may be published in an exhibition, a book or on other websites (for example, if a magazine wants to write an article about the project). I hope the IG account will not be deleted in the first week ... There and here on the website you will definitely find out how the project will continue!
Should a photo book be published: how can I get it?
I don't know exactly yet, but if I do, I'll be happy to let you know. Just send an email with the word "book" to howwebleed@gmail.com. Or if you take part and send a photo email anyway, just write “book” in it. You will get ONE SINGLE email when the time comes. But then you’ll also definitely find an info here on this website :)
It’s really nice that you are here, thank you – FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART – for your support!
